Ah Italy! How beautiful you are. Almost as stunning as Australia… If you’re keen for a trip down memory or dreamily lane, why not check out these films set in Italy.

  • Life is Beautiful – One of my all time favourites! See it with subtitles rather than dubbed. This is a beautiful, funny, poignant and moving films. A classic. Go the Italians.
  • A Room with a View – Florence through the eyes of the English at the turn of the century. If you’ve ever been to Florence you will love revisiting the city through this lovely film.
  • Tea with Mussolini – Old English (again) ladies experiencing the rumblings of WWII. A pearler.
  • The Bourne Supremacy – Naples, action and Matt Damon, what more could you want?
  • Angels & Demons – Rome, Pope and religious mystery. Haven’t seen it so I cannot recommend it! But watch it simply for Rome, beautiful Rome!
  • La Dolce Vita – (The Sweet Life), A classic film by Frederico Fellini. Be arty and check it out.
  • Hudson Hawk – Um. Don’t do it!
  • The Lizzie McGuire Movie – She’s young, blonde and in Rome. Connect with your inner tween and enjoy.
  • Mission Impossible III – Tom Cruise in Rome (can you see a pattern?)
  • Nine – Starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Penelope Cruz and the rest. A bit saucy but it’s in Roma!
  • Oceans Twelve –  Rat to Brat to (what do we call them now?) it’s all here in beautiful Italia.
  • Pink Panther 2 – Classic.
  • Roman Holiday – How many Americans packed their bags for Rome after this film was released? We love you Audrey.
  • Sabrina Goes to Rome – And I don’t care.
  • The Tiger and the Snow – Another incredible film by Roberto Benigni. If you loved Life is Beautiful you will explode with delight with this one. Less sad more humour set in Italy and Iraq.
  • The Bourne Ultimatum – Matty is back as Jason Bourne, back in Italy, he just cannot get enough.
  • Heaven – Starring Cate Blanchett and Giovanni Ribisi.
  • The Italian Job – Both 1969 and 2003 versions filmed in Turin and Venice
  • Casino Royale/ From Russia With Love / Moonraker– Bond, James Bond, courtesy of Daniel Craig, Sean Connery and Roger Moore.
  • Casanova – oh Heath Ledger how we miss you. You were a waskal in this film but we love you!
  • Death in Venice – A very disturbing film thrust upon me by my University. I wish I could cleanse my mental palate.
  • Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade – Say no more. Indy goes to Venice.
  • Just Married – Guess who spends their honeymoon in Venice?
  • The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen 
  • The Merchant of Venice – Starring Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons and Joseph Fiennes.
