Leonardo DiCaprio has come a long way since his days on Growing Pains. He still retains his ‘baby boy chubby cheeks, don’t you just wanna squeeze them’ looks but now the boy has become a man and that man has serious psychological issues.

Or at least his character in the wow wow film, Inception, has. This film has been seriously hyped. Everybody who is anybody loves it. It is a mind bender and the special effects are pretty darn special. I was expecting to come out completely confused, unsure which way was up. I expected dreams of the hallucinatory nature to follow but no, I slept like a teenager after a bender; deep with loads of saliva dripping down my chin.

This film was actually pretty easy to follow (unless I missed something?!). I got the three levels of the dream state and kinda how they got there. It was mind bending and fairly original but I thought they could have done a little more. I know the modern way is to not show everything and leave the audience to make their own reality (how postmodern daaarling). But really, it was hard to tell whether they had just run out of time or ideas. Things were brought together rather quickly in the end. Or was it deliberate?

The acting was perfecto – even our l’il Leo did a fine job playing a grown up and I absolutely love Juno actress Ellen Page. It was a cast of famous, semi-famous and who-the-heck-are-they-but-they-sure-can-act-and-they-really-add-to-the-movie actors.

The star of Inception however, is the action; the special effects. This is what makes this movie a wow wow movie. There were gasps through the theatre in one fight scene… well, you just have to see it to believe it. I don’t want to give too much away but it is definitely a movie to see in a darkened theatre with a box of maltesers and a coke, popcorn and a strong armrest. You’ll need to go with someone else too, this is not a solo movie. You must have coffee or cake or a drive or something afterwards in order to comfortably digest all that you’ve seen.

Inception is a movie that will please everyone. It has action, loads of tension, love, despair, loss and sci-fi elements. Though it may have fallen a teensy bit short of the hype for me, it is still an incredible movie, worth the dough and worth two hours of your life.

Rooms that go to the roofI keep having a dream about an old two-storey house. It’s white and has lots of rooms. Last dream, it had four baths!!! And they were all long and deep, just how I like them.

I walk through this house and it feels a little strange but right, you know? New things take time to become homey. The rooms feel heavy with stories, from the past and the future. It seems like a strong house that will hold all the dramas of life and not fall down.

The maze of rooms has me fascinated. Like I MUST find out where they go and how the house is set up. I never have a complete floor plan in my mind. The second time I dreamed about this house, a friend of mine was selling it for $700,000 at Collaroy, so I had to choose whether I wanted to stay in Av in a small house or move to Collaroy and live in this old, big, historical, four bath house with white shutters.

One of the four

It is one of those dreams or series of dreams that haunts me. I want to know what I chose in the dream. I want to know what it means, if anything. It was a beautiful old house. And where on planet earth, would I find $700 000?

Curiouser and curiouser!
